New terminal in Alexandria

The Egyptian authorities of the Port of Alexandria plan to enter into a long-term partnership with CMA CGM to operate and manage Pier 55.

The negotiations in Egypt were headed by CMA CGM chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé. In total, the new container terminal will cover an area of 560,000 sqm with quay lengths of 2 km. The annual throughput capacity is supposed to reach 1.5 million teu.

The terminal is expected to start operations in 2022. CMA CGM thus expands its Mediterranean network, which includes Marseilles-Fos (France), Seville (Spai), Malta, Thessaloniki (Greece) and Lattakia in Syria. Currently, CMA CGM vessels make more than 700 transits of the Suez Canal per year. (cd)
