New tracks for port railway in Wilhelmshaven

The rail facility in Rüstersieler Groden in Wilhelmshaven, Germany welcomes 15 trains carrying up 52 wagons per week. The port railway is primarily used for the transhipment and transport of coal, which puts a great deal of pressure on the rail tracks.

Therefore, to make sure that operations continue to run smoothly, the port operator Niedersachsen Ports (NPorts) is upgrading several track sections on a total length of 2,300 m as well as four switches of the port railway.

The upgrade includes laying new tracks, replacing the old wooden sleepers with new concrete ones and the renewal of the entire ballast bed. Construction works began yesterday, 27 April 2020 and are scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2020. (ben)
