New US railport to shift 375,000 HGVs from road
Construction work has started on a major ship-to-rail project in the USA. The Express Rail Port Jersey facility, scheduled for completion in mid-2018, will connect the port of New York and New Jersey’s GCT Bayonne terminal to CSX and Norfolk Southern’s extensive rail network, and remove 375,000 trucks annually from the crowded US highways.
The facility, which is being built adjacent to the GCT Bayonne container terminal, will provide direct access to on-dock or near-dock rail services for all of the port of New York and New Jersey’s major marine terminals. (ben)
