Nile Dutch deal closed

The road ahead is clear. In March, Hamburg-based carrier Hapag-Lloyd announced the acquisition of Dutch container shipping company Nile Dutch Investments(Nile Dutch). After all responsible antitrust and regulatory authorities had approved the transaction, Hapag-Lloyd formally took over all the company's shares.

“We look forward to unlocking the enormous potential that Africa has to offer,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd. Both carriers aim to integrate major parts of their businesses already in the later part of 2021.

Headquartered in Rotterdam, Nile Dutch is present in 85 locations globally, and has 16 offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Singapore, China, Angola, Congo and Cameroon. The company also brings with it seven liner services, around 35,000 teu of transport capacity, and a container fleet with a capacity of around 80,000 teu. Full commercial integration is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. (cd)
