No quiet holiday for Cologne customs

Customs officers at Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) intercepted 30 parcels containing over 83 kg of marijuana, nearly 10 kg of hashish, and about 2 kg of cannabis paste (photo) with a street value of around EUR 2.1 million. The drugs, disguised as clothing, sports goods and books, were detected exactly two weeks ago, on 3 October, Germany’s Unity Day, during routine risk analysis checks.

"Kilos of marijuana from the US have become part of our daily business, but this amount in one night is extraordinary," said Jens Ahland, spokesperson for Cologne’s main customs office. The cannabis paste was hidden in jars labelled as honey. Investigations are ongoing under the lead of the Customs Investigation Office in Essen. (ah)
