Norfolk Southern to serve new factory

The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) will invest USD 200,000 to help develop a new manufacturing facility in Siler City, NC, which will be built by the Innovative Construction Group (ICG) and several other partners. With the money, NCRR will finance the design and construction of a new rail spur to connect the factory with the rail network. It will be served by Norfolk Southern Railway.

Once the site is in operation, rail activity is expected to increase by a minimum of 75 railcars each year. The rail spur will enable ICG to carry out large shipments effectively and efficiently to and from the factory, NCRR said. The US short line owns and operates a 510 km rail corridor in North Carolina, spanning from Morehead City to Charlotte. (ben)
