One of the largest ships under the German flag

Exactly one month ago, on 23 May, at the port of Rotterdam, Hapag-Lloyd officially named its new flagship, the "Rotterdam Express".

At nearly 400 m long and with capacity for 23,600 teu, it ranks amongst the largest and most advanced vessels under the German flag. The ceremony at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II brought together key partners and guests.

Ute Schlotfeldt, wife of former board member Joachim Schlotfeldt, named the vessel with a champagne bottle. Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen and port of Rotterdam CEO Boudewijn Siemons highlighted their long-standing cooperation. Afterwards, captain Peter Rössler and his crew welcomed guests on board for guided tours.

The vessel is one of twelve sisterships and will operate in the Far East–North Europe services of Hapag-Lloyd’s Gemini Network. (ah)
