Opening a rail link to save 3,000 truck journeys

In cooperation with the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), Bau Beton has put a new connecting train into operation at the port of Vienna Freudenau. From now on, 60,000 to 80,000 t of gravel and binder will be transported by rail via the facility each year - saving around 3,000 truck journeys.

The new railway connects the company directly to the public rail network. Gravel and binding agents can thus be transported in an environmentally friendly way in efficient door-to-door traffic - without changing the mode of transport.

After all, every tonne of freight transported by train is 30 times more climate-friendly than by truck. The high level of safety also speaks in favour of transporting goods by rail, ÖBB said. (ben)
