Ore export railway opened

The African SMB-Winning Consortium, Africa, which specialises in bauxite production, has inaugurated a new 125 km railway line in Guinea.

Connecting important storage towns between Boké to Boffa with the river port of Dapilon, the new link will now transport ore destined for export. It includes 21 bridges, two tunnels and six depots and is the first line to be built in the country since the 1970s.

All in all, SMB has invested USD 3 billion in the Boffa-Boké project, which comprises the construction of this new railway line, the operation of the Santou II and Houda deposits, the construction and operation of an alumina refinery and the creation of an agricultural growth corridor along the railway line. The SMB-Winning Consortium exported a total of around 40 million t of ore from Guinea in 2020. (ben)
