Outrider unveils safety system for autonomous yard operations
Outrider, a leader in autonomous yard automation, has developed the first safety system specifically designed for driverless logistics operations in mixed-traffic trailer yards.
The proprietary system aligns with TÜV SÜD’s ‘AV Conformity Framework’ (AVCF), confirming its compliance with global safety standards.
The safety system, integral to Outrider’s next-generation driverless yard trucks, includes 14 safety mechanisms to address over 200,000 hazards. It utilises redundant hazard detection, fail-safe hardware and real-time health monitoring to ensure safe automated operations. The system is designed for high precision and reliability, handling complex tasks such as trailer movement in busy logistics hubs.
Outrider’s approach builds on ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 standards, setting the bar for future yard automation. With multi-customer deployment slated for late 2025, the company is also preparing for broader rollouts in 2026 and 2027. (gy)
