Over two dozen rail projects on track


The US-state Pennsylvania has approved 26 rail freight improvement projects for a total USD 31.3 million that will enhance freight mobility while creating or sustaining more than 200 jobs across Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has 65 operating railroads and roughly 9,000 km of freight lines.

 

The Pennsylvania department of transportation is committed to working with private rail operators and rail-served businesses to construct and modernise rail.

 

Among the railways to benefit are: CSX with USD 8.4 million to replace a tunnel to permit routing of double-stack container and multi-level auto rack traffic to/from Port of Philadelphia, the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad with USD 4.7 million to replace and rehabilitate bridges, RJ Corman Railroad with USD 3 million to modernise 23 km of rail as well as Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad USD 1.3 million to construct a siding to expand capacity and replace 2,300 km of rail and 1,550 ties.
