Pacific National welcomes Evo loco
An 'Evolution Evo' locomotive, Australia’s most fuel-efficient long-haul freight locomotive, according to the manufacturer, has been launched at UGL’s Broadmeadow facility.
Designed and manufactured locally by UGL, in partnership with Wabtec, the Evo was delivered to Pacific National as part of its fleet decarbonisation efforts. The locomotive combines Wabtec technology with UGL’s Australian-made design to meet sustainability goals, according to Stuart Inglis, general manager of UGL's manufacturing and maintenance business.
Over 400 guests attended the launch, including representatives from government and the rail industry. UGL has manufactured equipment in Newcastle for 125 years. Inglis sees the Evo as a symbol of Australia’s growing sovereign manufacturing capabilities. (js)
