Perfect storm pushes DHL's results

With its preliminary group results for 2020, logistics group Deutsche Post DHL Group has confirmed that Covid-19 was an important driver for business last year. At EUR 4.84 billion, consolidated ebit surpassed the result originally forecast by more than 9%.

The growth of global e-commerce activities increased the group’s revenue by 5% to EUR 66.8 billion. Frank Appel, CEO Deutsche Post DHL Group, praised "the incredible performance of our 550,000 worldwide.”

The e-commerce segment was particularly successful, pushing ebit up to EUR 160 million after a loss in the year before. The express business performed equally well and raised its ebit by 13% to EUR 590 million.

In light of this positive business development, the group has improved its forecasts for the consolidated ebit in 2021 to around EUR 5.4 billion.

Deutsche Post DHL Group is now planning investments (capex) of about EUR 9.5 billion (previously EUR 8.5 – 9.5% billion). This includes the effects of the newly ordered eight additional 777 cargo aircraft. (sh)
