Pineapples in time for Christmas

The French holiday airline Air Austral continues to rely on the freight business and is starting, today, 4 December 2020, with a series of five flights in order to carry tropical fruits from the Island of La Réunion to France.

A B777-300ER with Easa authorisation for the exclusive use of belly-hold capacity will be flying pineapples, lychees and passion fruit to Paris CDG, from where it will be distributed to destinations across Europe in time for Christmas and the New Year.

In addition, from 25 to 27 November, Air Austral also carried out a special roundtrip to Réunon upon request of the French government. The outward flight made a stopover in Mayotte, where it dropped off air freight and air mail. On the return flight to Marseille, 80 firemen were taken on board. They had been helping their colleagues to fight severe fires that had broken out on the island. (ah)
