Plans for boosting cargo business in Mozambique

Mozambique's Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) seems to be seriously considering the use of maindeck capacity in the international market to respond to business opportunities, especially in the transport of high-end agricultural products like litchi produced in Manica province to France, but also for material for multinationals investing in natural gas exploitation in Cabo Delgado province.

Media in the Southeast African country report that the move was recently announced in Maputo by director-general João Pó Jorge during a visit by the parliamentary planning and budget commission within the scope of the latter’s state business sector oversight and supervision mandate. According to the official, LAM expects to end the year with a fleet of nine aircraft, projected to increase to a total of 21 by 2030. (ah)
