Polb's CEO says farewell

Jon Slangerup is stepping down as CEO of the port of Long Beach (Polb), effective 28 October 2016. He has accepted a position as chairman and CEO of a leading aviation technology company. The harbour commissioners’ board will oversee the search for a new CEO.

Soon after joining the Californian port in June 2014, Slangerup’s leadership was instrumental in addressing the historic congestion challenge that affected the San Pedro Bay port complex and the national goods movement network.

Months later, in July 2015, the port set the strongest cargo record in more than a century of operations and the strongest performance since the great recession. Slangerup also oversaw ongoing progress on the port’s USD 4 billion, ten year capital improvement plan.

Polb also achieved another milestone earlier this year when the 18,000 teu megaship “CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin” docked at the facility.
