Pop-up terminal opens in California

US class I railways Union Pacific (UP) is opening a new intermodal terminal near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in an area that is central for the distribution of imports and industrial warehousing in Southern California.

The terminal will come on stream in Q2/2021, providing expanded access to Chicago and other key markets. UP will start by establishing a “pop-up" terminal at its West Colton rail yard.

Domestic intermodal services will launch between Southern California and Chicago, with connections to Dallas and southeast markets to follow at a later date.

According to the rail company, UP has the largest intermodal network in North America, with the most direct services from coast to coast. (ben)
