Port director resigns

Ports of Indiana announced Ian Hirt’s resignation as port director of Indiana-Burns Harbor, effective 3 May 2021. While he is retiring to the private sector, as he said in his statement, the Ports of Indiana are looking for a suitable replacement.

The state-wide port authority operates in three ports on the Ohio River and Lake Michigan, established in 1961.

Hirt joined in March 2017 after spending over 25 years in various maritime shipping capacities along the Great Lakes.

Working twelve years as general manager for Federal Maritime Terminals and additionally serving as a vessel agent, he also ran safety and training programmes for several marine terminals. Most recently, Hirt served as general manager for North America Stevedoring in Chicago. (amh)
