Port of Barcelona welcomes new president

Damià Calvet is taking office today, 5 July 2021, as president of the port of Barcelona, replacing Mercè Conesa, who has presided the Mediterranean port for the past three years, since July 2018. Calvet was appointed at the last meeting of the executive council of the government of Catalonia.

Calvet looks back on many years of public service. He was elected minister of territory and sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya during the XII legislature, amongst other posts. Before that, he held various positions in the government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the most important being those of director of the Catalan Soil Institute (Incasòl) and president of Cimalsa (2013–2018).

Calvet’s challenges are to continue the port’s sustainable development and decarbonisation. Amongst other elements he will focus on innovation and digitalisation in order to make Barcelona a smarter port, in keeping with the goals set in the gateway’s fourth strategic plan (2021–2025). (cd)
