Port of Monrovia now offers 24-hour operations

Liberia’s Freeport of Monrovia has launched 24-hour marine operations, enabling vessels to berth and depart at any time of the day or night. The initiative was driven by the National Port Authority, in partnership with APM Terminals and the Liberia Maritime Authority (Lima).

Vice-president Jeremiah Kpan Koung hailed the move as key to trade and infrastructure growth. APM Terminals invested around USD 4 million in new port equipment, including pilot and patrol boats and cargo handlers.

The project also celebrated the training of Liberian professionals as marine pilots and tug masters, a move backed by APM Terminals and Svitzer.

APM Terminals’ global CCO Birna Ósk Einarsdóttir said the upgrade will improve efficiency and job creation. Vice-president Koung added that the move is in line with Liberia’s agenda to show that the country is “open and ready for business.” (gy)
