Port of Savannah's expansion project

The Port of Savannah is expanding its capacities. The Georgia Ports Authority Board (GPA) approved a budget of USD 34 million to build up an additional 1.6 million teu in capacity - in due course.

"In three months, this investment will begin to deliver the additional capacity we need to better accommodate increased volumes and demand for our services," commented GPA executive director Griff Lynch.

The "peak capacity project" is currently under construction and will provide 800,000 teu of annual capacity at the Port of Savannah. The project will be completed in two phases, with the first coming online in December. (cd)
