Port of Tema's expansion project ready for take-off
The expansion plan of the port of Tema (Ghana) should be implemented by Q2/2015, now that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Meridian Ports Services (MPS), one of the top container terminal operators in Africa, and the Ghana ports and harbours authority (GPHA) with the joint ventures of Bollore Africa Logistics and APM Terminals as principal investors.
The agreement entails the construction and provision of basic port infrastructure such as a breakwater, a quay wall and terminals, as well as dredging the port to adequate depths, among other work.
The Ghanaian port handled a total of about 842,000 teu in 2013.
