Port renews Pers certification

North Sea Port (Belgium/the Netherlands) has again been recertified by Ecoports for the environmental management of the port. North Sea Port received its first Port Environmental Review System (Pers) certification in 2018. The certification is valid for two years. Currently, 31 ports hold a Pers certificate.

Valter Selén, senior policy advisor at the European Sea Ports Organisation (Espo) and Ecoports coordinator, says the port can expect “many more Pers certifications to come” and that “its commitment to environmental management does not stop at national borders.”

After revising the two-year period to ensure that the port still complies with the requirements, Isabelle Ryckbost, Espo secretary general, commented that this recertification will further boost North Sea Port’s efforts to make its ecosystem more sustainable. (lh)
