Port Vell's transformation plans until 2024

More than EUR 86 million will be invested in public-private projects in the Port of Barcelona's Old Port, or Port Vell, in the upcoming months. Seventeen separate undertakings have been defined that will transform the city-port area from 2023 to 2024. This initial phase is just part of the major transformation of the Port Vell which is to be finished before the 37th America's Cup kicks off in August 2024.

The upgrade includes the refurbishing of the port's North entrance and the sheds on the Oriental wharf, the building the Nova Bocana promenade, the new Mirador and the America's Cup House – Imax Building, the demolishing of the Cinesa building and the remodelling of the Maremàgnum, among other projects.

The Gerència Urbanística Port Vell has been assigned new powers for this purpose. “We need to give more firepower to the Port Vell Urban Development Authority, which is the fundamental management tool of the Port Vell,” said Lluís Salvadó, president of the Port of Barcelona. (cd)
