Ports honoured for environmental management

At the annual European Sea Ports Organisation (Espo) conference in Paris, eleven European ports received the port environmental review system (Pers) certificate for their efficiency in environmental management.

The certified ports were Algeciras, Barcelona, Klaipeda, Niedersachsen, Tenerife, Sevilla, Igoumenitsa, Waterford, Dover, Pori and Vigo. This certification, managed by Ecoports and independently assessed by LRQA Nederland, highlights ports' commitment to improved environmental practices and is valid for two years.

Pers is being increasingly recognised in Europe, with 33 ports currently certified out of 90 in the Ecoports Network. This event underscores the widespread adoption of environmental standards among diverse European ports, from small to large, enhancing sustainability in the industry. (pb)
