Ports worldwide stronger than estimated

In February, the container throughput index of the RWI – Leibniz reported a small, seasonally adjusted rise from (revised) 122.2 to 123.0.

The North Range Index, which is an indicator for economic development in northern Europe and Germany, has decreased slightly, from (revised) 117.5 to 115.00. Hence, the lockdown has had but little impact on container throughput in many European countries.

Throughput in the Chinese ports has also declined a little. In the remaining ports, on the other hand, container throughput shows a moderate increase.

The RWI/ISL container throughput index for March 2021 will be published on 30 April 2021. (cd)
