PSAA joins Zepa for cleaner ports

PSA Antwerp (PSAA) has joined the ‘Zero Emission Port Alliance’ (Zepa), a global initiative aiming to accelerate the deployment of battery-electric port equipment.

The move is in line with the PSA Group’s climate goals to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050.

A central element is PSA Antwerp’s ‘Green Straddle Carrier Programme’, which explores electric straddle carriers as a key to reducing emissions. These vehicles currently account for most of the terminal’s direct emissions in Belgium.

Joining Zepa allows PSA to collaborate with partners in the port logistics chain to address challenges such as equipment interoperability and infrastructure gaps. PSA Belgium MD Edward Tah said the alliance helps scale up zero-emission technology, through shared innovation and investment.

PSA Antwerp operates three container terminals in Antwerp, as well as breakbulk and multipurpose facilities in Zeebrugge. (gy)
