PTC in operation across 98% of required Class 1 routes

In the USA, positive train control (PTC) is now in operation across the vast majority – 98.5% – of the required Class I route km according to newly data from the association of American railroads (AAR). The USA’s largest railroads had the technology now in operation across 85,296 km of their 85,300 km of PTC-required track.

Thus, they remain on track to meet the final deadline for full implementation of the critical safety technology, 31 December 2020, with several railroads already operating the technology across their entire required PTC footprint. Until now, the Class I railroads have invested USD 11.47 billion in the development, installation and implementation of PTC (ben)
