Qantas to add maindeck cargo capacity

Qantas will convert two of its A330 passenger aircraft with EFW into freighters. One of them will be used in Qantas Freight’s international network, while the other, starting in mid-2023, will be a new addition to the dedicated fleet that serves Australia Post’s domestic parcel and mail business.

CEO Alan Joyce: "Covid has accelerated the permanent expansion of e-commerce and online shopping in this country. The converted A330 aircraft for Australia Post will be able to carry around 50 t of cargo each flight and more than double the capacity of other freighters operating for the national postal service."

In addition, Qantas Freight will receive its third A321P2F this week. The narrowbody freighter (20 t), which will also operate for Australia Post, previously operated passenger services for Jetstar. (ah)
