Rail pilot project launched for parcel delivery

DPD has launched a daily railfreight service between Hamburg and Duisburg (Germany). As part of this pilot project, the company will gradually shift more of its long-distance parcel shipments to rail.

The aim is to reduce the carbon footprint of the parcels transported and thus make an important contribution to greater sustainability. The first interim goal is for around 5% of DPD's domestic freight transport to be carried by rail as early as next year.

DPD is conducting this rail transport project in partnership with Kombiverkehr. The Frankfurt-based service provider is backed by more than 230 freight forwarders and DB Cargo as limited partners. (ben)
