Railfreight business booming in Saudi Arabia


Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) achieved an increase of 25% in freight transport in Q1/2022, transporting more than 5.5 million t of minerals and goods compared to the same period of 2021.

 

Furthermore, the quantities of cargo transported by rails over the first quarter effectively contributed to reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide by equivalent of 197,000 t, saving more than 900,000 barrels of diesel fuel. SAR’s freight and mineral trains covered more than 1,200 km, taking more than 230,000 trucks off the road. (ben)
