Railfreight companies demonstrate in Berlin
It was the first demonstration to take place on rail tracks, and SBB Cargo International was one of the participants. Yesterday, Monday, 28 September 2020, a line locomotive of SBB Cargo International joined 19 other locomotives of just as many other private railfreight companies to drive through Germany’s capital Berlin.
The event was organised by the Netzwerk Europäischer Eisenbahnen (network of European railways, NEE). With their two-hour drive through Berlin, the railfreight companies demonstrated for fair competition on the market so that they all can continue to grow.
They said they did not want to be treated worse than the state-owned railfreight company of Deutsche Bahn but on an equal playing field with all competitors.
The railfreight companies also demanded that the government suit its actions to its words and begin to implement its diverse and repeatedly reiterated plans to strengthen the railways in order to shift more traffic from the roads. (ben)
