Railfreight debut for EWR
DB Cargo UK and Maritime Transport have launched the first commercial train on the newly reopened Oxford–Bletchley section of East West Rail.
The service links DP World Southampton with the new Segro Logistics Park terminal in Northampton, offering five weekday connections with up to 68 teu capacity.
Backed by the 'track access discount scheme', the route aims to enhance east-west connectivity and support the modal shift, according to Brian Paynter, capital delivery track director at Network Rail.
Segro’s wider GBP 200 million investment includes high-speed junction access to the West Coast Main Line. The new corridor is expected to reduce road congestion and CO₂ emissions, while strengthening the UK’s inland logistics network. (js)
