Railway delivers 18 m long and 5 t heavy pipes

Partners from industry, infrastructure and logistics are working together to transform Germany’s energy supply and connect the Brunsbüttel LNG import terminal in Schleswig-Holstein to Northwest Europe’s gas network.

DB Cargo is also involved in the project. On behalf of network operator Gasunie, the railfreight company  delivered around 3,000 pipes for the construction of the approximately 55 km long power transmission pipeline in just a few weeks.

The pipes transported by rail are 18 mm long, 80 cm in diameter and weigh around 5 t per tube. The pipeline is scheduled to be able to transport the gas supplied by the floating LNG terminal to consumer hubs early next winter. (ben)
