Realterm and Leipzig/Halle to build cargo hub

Realterm and Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ) have unveiled plans for a new 45,000 sqm built-to-suit air cargo facility at Germany’s second-largest freight hub.

Designed for single or multi-user operations, the terminal will feature direct apron access, truck staging and flexible layouts for express, e-commerce and general cargo.

"This is one of the most valuable strategic air cargo real estate opportunities in Europe," said Lynn Kau, SVP for corporate development at Realterm. "It combines modern functionality with an ideal location and 24/7 access."

The project builds on Realterm’s experience at major airports, including JFK and O’Hare in the USA, and underlines LEJ’s position as a multimodal cargo gateway in Central Europe.

LEJ processed 1.4 million t of freight in 2024 and continues to grow. Frank Pieper, SVP at the airport operator Mitteldeutsche Flughafen, added that "together with Realterm’s expertise we’re creating long-term infrastructure that will strengthen LEJ’s role as a gateway for resilient, multimodal logistics in all of Europe."
