Recognition for ABP talent Millie Barnes
Millie Barnes, an assistant operations manager at the UK’s port of Newport, has received the ‘Rising Star Award’ at the Maritime UK Awards 2025.
Barnes joined Associated British Ports (ABP) through its graduate scheme in 2022 and now plays a central role in steel and container operations.
After moving from the Humber in the north of England to Newport in South Wales in 2024, she helped expand 24/7 operations in the hub, recruited staff and introduced a new IT system. She also supported ABP’s global outreach, joining a leadership delegation to India.
Barnes is committed to driving gender equality in the enterprise and thus also coordinates ABP’s diversity group ‘ABPGen’.
The ‘Rising Star Award’ recognises professionals under 30 for their contributions to the maritime industry. ABP highlighted Barnes’s leadership skills and innovation as key factors in her win.
