Record result in pandemic year


Hamburg’s universal port is a major hub for Austria’s global import and export trade. With an increase of 2% and a tonnage of 4.45 million t, the port of Hamburg posted a record result in goods traffic to and from Austria in 2020.

 

Hence, the year of the pandemic was the most successful year in terms of tonnage since records began in the 1950s.

 

The Austrian steel and technology company voestalpine imported 1.3 million t of ore through the Hansport terminal last year.

 

In container traffic, the port of Hamburg recorded the second best result in its history, with a throughput of 301,000 teu. 90 container block trains run between the port on the River Elbe and Austria per week. (ben)
