Red Sea Terminal focuses on ULCS

The Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has purchased two ship-to- shore (STS) cranes supplied by ZPMC in Shanghai, China. The new cranes, each with a 70 m reach and a 52 m high, represent an investment of approximately USD 22 million and will be able to accommodate the latest generation of ultra-large containerships (ULCS) now in service and also currently under design.

These additions will bring RSGT’s total number of STS cranes in deployment to 16. Also included in this infrastructure and equipment improvement phase are ten new hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs), 50 new trucks, and trailers, representing an additional USD 19 million expenditure. Delivery of the new equipment will commence in Q4/2019, with completion expected during the first half of 2020.

With container volume growth of 28 % so far during 2019, RSGT is the busiest container terminal facility in Saudi Arabia’s western region. “This latest USD 41 million investment emphasises the continuing commitment to offering our customers a premium value proposition and the emergence of RSGT as a key link in the growing global logistics chain,” RSGT CEO Jens O. Floe observed. (fd)
