Reducing traffic jams during roadworks
Maintenance work on motorways usually requires reducing the number of traffic lanes. On main axes, this is only possible at night. However, the time windows for night time work on the Swiss road network are becoming shorter and shorter due to increasing traffic volumes.
A mobile bridge is now intended to help solve the problem. While vehicles drive on the mobile bridge, construction work can be carried out underneath. The bridge is already being tested. It is just under 240 m long and the approach and exit ramps have a gradient of a roughly 6%. Around 100 m are available under the bridge for construction work. Once the work under the bridge is finished, it will be moved by remote control to the next construction site. (ben)
