Relief flight from Switzerland to Venezuela

An aircraft chartered by Switzerland carrying mainly medical supplies has recently reached Caracas. Nine partner organisations brought the materials to Zurich airport where they were unloaded and transported to Venezuela by the humanitarian aid department of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (pictured head of humanitarian aid Manuel Bessler).

The flight carried 94 t of humanitarian supplies to help combat the Covid-19 pandemic - approximately the same as the total amount sent to date by the UN to Venezuela since the beginning of the pandemic. The operation is expected to benefit around 1.2 million people.

This relief flight ties in with Switzerland's other efforts to combat the worldwide spread of Covid-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Switzerland has delivered relief supplies to several countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.
