Renewable fuels now power GCT Vanterm
On this year's World Environment Day (5 June 2025), Global Container Terminals (GCT) announced the successful rollout of 100% renewable fuels at GCT Vanterm.
Since August 2024, all terminal equipment there has run on renewable diesel, replacing conventional fuels and reducing emissions by 68% in Q1/2025.
The project, part of GCT’s roadmap to net zero by 2050, was launched in partnership with the Burnaby Refinery and Spal, a Tsleil-Waututh Nation company. This initiative supports the Canadaian Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s call to action #92 and exemplifies GCT’s strategy to combine climate action with indigenous partnerships.
Expansion to other terminals is planned for 2025. GCT Vanterm is one of two green marine-certified gateway terminals in the port of Vancouver. (ah)
