Replacing 900 diesel locomotives

DB Cargo is investing in modern traction engines on a grand scale. The new vehicles will gradually replace all existing diesel locomotives, around 900 units. 300 climate-friendly vehicles are already in the pipeline.

DB Cargo ordered 50 plug-in hybrid locomotives from Vossloh at the beginning of the year. They are scheduled to enter service in 2024.

The carrier also commissioned 100 Vectron dual mode locomotives from Siemens more than a year ago. The first delivery will now be increased to around 150 locomotives from 2023. 46 specifically equipped locomotives will be added to this order.

DB Cargo is also buying 100 hybrid shunting locomotives manufactured in Rostock from Toshiba. The first rollout is planned for 2024. (ben)
