Russian Railways plans to deregulate tariffs

Russian Railways (RZD) has offered to deregulate tariffs for the transportation of containers, perishable goods and aluminium products in transit, according to RZD's president Vladimir Yakunin. He said that tariff deregulation could give railways a competitive advantage over sea carriers. In Russia, tariffs consisting of infrastructure and wagon components for the haulage of containers in transit are currently set by the Russian Federation's ministry of transport. The infrastructure component for the transport of perishable goods and aluminium products is now to be regulated by the federal tariff service. (ben)
