SBS Worldwide celebrates 30th anniversary
The logistics specialist SBS Worldwide is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. It is one of the largest freight forwarders still operating as a privately-owned and managed company in the UK. The company founder and chairman launched the business in 1983 as S Black Shipping, operating eastbound ocean freight consolidations between the UK and USA – and this transatlantic trade lane remains one of the company’s strongest markets. Over the years, the firm expanded into airfreight, express and supply chain services, as well as into new markets in China and continental Europe. In 1988 the business adopted the name SBS Worldwide and by 1990 it had opened an airfreight division at London’s Heathrow airport. That same year the firm opened an office in Chicago and it now has four facilities in the USA, as well as offices and warehouses in Hong Kong and China. Today, SBS Worldwide has more than 250 members of staff.
