Scottish JBT Distribution taken over

Menzies Distribution has acquired JBT Distribution (JBT), a Scottish logistics business with a yearly turnover of about of GBT 23 million. In total, 200 vehicles and six operating sites changed hands.

Based in Bathgate, West Lothian, with further depots in Aberdeen, Inverness, East Kilbride, Lerwick (Shetland) and Kirkwall (Orkney), the acquisition adds to Menzies’ geographical reach in Scotland.

It also represents Menzies Distribution's fourth takeover in six months and is another step in the company's process of consolidation after Brexit. The wave started in December, when Menzies Distribution acquired Bibby Distribution, now Menzies Distribution Solution.

In January 2021, former Asda CEO Andy Clarke was appointed as non-executive chairman. In May 2021, former Booker CEO Charles Wilson joined as a non-executive Director and investor.

Commenting on the acquisition, Greg Michael, chief executive officer of Menzies, said: “We are gaining momentum and warmly welcome Robert Gordon, Donald Carmichael and the rest of the team at JBT.” (sh)
