Second sister for the Baltic Sea

The “Finncanopus”, the second of the new series ro-pax vessels, has now touched water in the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai. It follows its sister “Finnsirius”, which was launched in August 2022.

The new superstar class cargo-passenger vessels, which will enter traffic in 2023, will serve the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär route between Finland, Åland Islands and Sweden. They will have a freight capacity of 5,200 rm, equivalent to 250 trucks and 200 cars.

"Around 90% of Finnish and Swedish exports and imports are carried by sea. Our service has been very important for our customers,” says Tom Pippingsköld, president and CEO of Finnlines. Technologies like the air lubrication system, onshore power supply and the use of alternative sources of energy will reduce the vessels' emissions and noise. (sh)
