Serving ho, ho, Hobart again

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Cargo is reintroducing its seasonal charter service to Tasmania for produce from both land and sea originating in Australia's smallest state. The first flight is departing its capital Hobart today, 29 November 2021, and services, with refuelling in Melbourne, are expected to run until at least 30 January 2022. The route will be operated by cargo-only passenger aircraft A350-900, while it was a B777 last year (photo).

Nigel Chynoweth, regional head of cargo southwest pacific: "We’re currently planning to operate around 35 flights, each carrying up to 38 t of Tasmanian produce with the possibility of extending the flights into March. The service will start out weekly for live seafood and then build to multiple weekly services as the cherry harvest increases to its peak over Christmas until Chinese New Year (1 February 2022)."
