Shift more traffic to the railways

In Germany, carrier DB Cargo and freight wagon leasing company VTG recently presented a newly developed forward-looking freight wagon. The two companies spent 18 months creating the prototype as part of their joint m2 project.

After successful testing, the companies are now applying for approval. The m2 project is designed as a modular building block system that enables wagons to be individually tailored to meet customer needs. Depending on their use, four-axle wagons can be configured to have a loading length between 10.6 m and 22.6 m.

Various components such as superstructures, bogies, wheelsets or brakes can be selected in accordance with the vehicle's future purpose. This flexibility allows wagons to be optimised based on various parameters, such as type of cargo, weight, mileage performance and cost. (ben)
