Siemens and Railpool establish hub in Verona

Siemens Mobility and Railpool have signed a deal to create a modern locomotive maintenance hub in Verona, Italy, reinforcing the country's role in European rail logistics. This joint investment of around EUR 20 m will establish a 15,000 sqm facility at the Verona Interporto logistics centre, which will operate under an "open-access" model for multi-system and direct current locomotives.

The hub will feature five tracks for light maintenance and an additional track for wheelset lathe operations, facilitating the transition of freight transport to rail. This initiative aligns with the expected capacity increase with the upcoming Brenner base tunnel. Siemens and Railpool aim to strengthen rail freight efficiency along the strategic Verona-Brenner corridor. The new depot will complement Siemens' existing service centre in Novara, enhancing service reliability and availability across Europe's logistics network.
