Smarter ports with 5G private networks

Ericsson has released its new Connected Ports report, describing smart use cases that aim to optimise port operations.

According to the World Bank, trade represented more than 60% of the world's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, with maritime transport playing by far the most important role in this field. Ports thus require smart technology to ease trade flows.

The port of Livorno in Italy for example deploys 5G technologies to improve the exchange of information in real time between the various parties involved in the port terminal process. These applications can potentially reduce carbon emissions by 8.2% for a terminal operation. (cd)
